When Pedro Guimarães joined our coding bootcamp, he wasn’t starting from scratch. He already had experience working as a junior developer, but he knew he wanted to go deeper.
“I started trying to understand how everything in a computer works,” Pedro shared when asked what first sparked his interest in coding. That curiosity led him to explore further. Though he had some experience with web development, he recognized there was still plenty to learn.
“I had some experience in web dev but not that much, and I was certain that the bootcamp was going to be good for me.”
Learning curve and classmates
Pedro describes his experience in the bootcamp simply: “Was amazing, learned a lot and met a lot of people.”
Like many students, he encountered challenges, particularly when learning React for the first time – “React was something completely new for me, and I had some problems using it but nothing too big.”
What made a difference during tough moments was the shared energy and focus of the people around him:
“The environment was amazing – everybody studying, focused on the same objective.”
Putting New Skills to Work Immediately
After graduating, Pedro returned to Brazil and found himself quickly applying what he had learned. His company, VectaX, gave him a significant challenge: to build the mobile version of their web app from scratch with React Native learnt at out bootcamp.
“As soon as I got back to Brazil, the company that I work for gave me a challenge to build the app version of our web app, and I managed to do it all by myself without any senior help.”
To hear that for us is extremely fuilfilling as we can see that skills we teach are immediately put to work and lead to the positive changes in graduates career.
Pedro currently works at VectaX as a Fullstack Mid Developer, responsible for front-end, back-end, and mobile development, as well as providing support to the second-level technical team.
“I’m responsible for making the front-end, back-end, and app. I also am responsible to give direct support to N2 support.”
On the job, Pedro expanded his toolset further, learning both Vue 2 and Vue 3. But when asked what bootcamp knowledge turned out to be most useful in the real world, his emphasied React Native and Express.
Looking Back, Looking Forward
Pedro feels the bootcamp delivered exactly what he hoped for, – "I achieved what I expected, and I’m sure I can build a web/mobile app with MERN.”
“I met a lot of people from around the world — I thought it would be only Spanish people.”
For future students, Pedro shares some straightforward advice:
“Prepare for your interview. Sometimes it seems ‘easy,’ but you can forget something. You have to be prepared for everything that the interviewer will ask. Practice your talking, your code skills, and your problem-solving. Remember that in a job, you won’t be only coding.”
Pedro’s journey is a great reminder that even with some background in development, focused learning in the right environment can push you much further. From new frameworks to mobile app development, he turned his curiosity into real confidence and real-world results.
